Job Description

Strategix Solutions Group, LLC is seeking a Systems Administrator to support virtualized Servers (VMWare), network systems, and messaging systems. You will be responsible for maintaining and supporting existing server assets and engineering solutions for data center and cloud environments in order to support our clients expanding mission and business needs. The current environment has approximately 500 MS Windows Servers and is 95% virtualized. The virtual environment is built upon HP 7000 and HP 3000 blade Servers as well as Cisco UCS 5100 series blade Servers. Regional offices have standalone MS Windows-based Dell Servers.

This is a Full time position and will be based in Washington, DC, within walking distance to a metro station.

Job Responsibilities: This position will involve working in a team environment with a group of Systems Administrators involving frequent collaborative efforts with Network engineering and Operations and Maintenance ("O&M") departments to support a variety of customer environments across multiple data centers throughout the commission. The position will also include regular communication and support responsibilities to both the O&M and customers in multiple geographic regions.

The successful candidate must have strong experience with configuring and managing a WSUS server, patch management software and installation of firmware and upgrades for all Windows-based operating systems at various locations and enclaves.

Minimum Years of Experience: 5 - 8 Years

Required Education: Associate's degree

Required Certifications: MCSA: Windows Server 2008/2012 R2

Certifications Desired: CompTIA Security+ CE and/or ITIL v3 Foundations


Job Responsibilities:

Perform server administration, monitoring network traffic, capacity planning and testing; install and implement security patches, evaluate systems and implement network management software. Keep abreast of technical developments of importance and participate in developing or setting standards. Manage change control for designated systems. Continuous understanding of the business processes the system(s) support.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain a server management strategy.

Provide general technical support to the service center and network services staff to resolve end-user issues.

Provide technical support for server OS-based issues.

Provide technical support for SFTP application and server based issues.

Routinely review server OS event logs and mitigate any identified issues.

Conduct performance testing and tuning on host and operating systems.

Maintain the infrastructure server updates and engine definitions at appropriate levels.

Perform operating system vulnerability scans according to NIST 853, 20 Critical Controls.

Monitor and maintain hardware for all VM and standalone Servers.

Review, test, and install appropriate firmware, security patches and upgrades for all Windows-based operating systems at various locations and enclaves.

Provide remediation plans for the testing and implementation of third-party firmware and security patches on the infrastructure Servers.

Develop and maintain a server security profile.

Maintain weekly and monthly Service Level Requirements (SLR) documentation for server status.

Monitor and maintain a baseline configuration for development, test and production Servers.

Provision virtual Servers as requested.

Facilitate technical support and troubleshooting by third party engineers.

Review system requirements and provide recommended designs for optimal server build and configuration.

Maintain server OS levels at approved versions.

Manage and maintain Windows Firewall profiles.

Develop, maintain and routinely test an OS recovery process.

Provide operational support for the hours required and per government and company guidance for holidays, emergency closures, etc. . .

Utilize the ticket tracking system to document a complete, accurate and detailed account of an incident and outages activities. Excellent communication, interpersonal, technical and organizational skills

Ability to focus on the technical aspect steps as well as how they fit into the overall upgrade process

Ability to quickly troubleshoot complex issues

Ability to work well individually and as part of a team

Ability to describe and document issues for different audiences, managers, system engineers, and DBAs

Ability to interface with external customers in high-pressure situations

Demonstrate analytical/problem solving skills in a team environment

Written and oral communication skills, including preparing and presenting briefings for customer as well as communications between engineering disciplines skills

Demonstrate exceptional teamwork and interpersonal skills

Skills Required:

Demonstrated knowledge of the following:

Backup and restore related technology experience

Knowledge of application Servers.

Knowledge of capacity management

Good understanding of security issues surrounding server OS and applications

Experience monitoring service thresholds

Experience with virtualization of applications (VMWare)

Data manipulation and extraction skills

Above average understanding of operating systems, applications software and Data Management Concepts

Work in a team environment

Excellent attention to detail

Desired knowledge of the following:

Network administration experience (layer-2 switching and Firewall configurations)

Experience with file replication or messaging systems

Web server configuration and management.

Experience with database connectivity
